His Life’s Work
As he has said to judges and juries alike, this is Daniel’s life’s work. This work is his passion and sole focus. For better or worse, advocacy is his identity. It’s what gets him out of a very comfortable bed every morning.
Daniel is a graduate of Tulane University and Tulane School of Law, forever holding a deep love for New Orleans. That’s where he got his start in this field: fighting after Hurricane Katrina to reform and rebuild an absolutely broken system of justice at the Orleans Public Defender. The attorneys and staff were nothing short of inspirational and remain heroes in his heart.
After law school, Daniel came to Colorado to work for the Colorado Public Defender, receiving the top notch training that they offer. He worked for almost 3 years in the La Junta satellite office with another group of heroes and mentors. La Junta was a tough place to live for a young guy and the public defender system just did not satisfy his entrepreneurial spirit.
Daniel launched Daniel R. Kent Esquire in December of 2016 to get out there and hustle for real reform in the criminal “justice” system. While he’s no ideologue – police officers have tough jobs and mostly are trying to do their best – he strategically advocates because the system often has little to do with justice.
Daniel has quickly moved up in the field of post-conviction litigation through mentorship with legendary attorneys, making him one of the best in the state. After 5 homicide trials within the span of 12 months in 2022, he has shifted his practice to mostly appeals and post-conviction. He paid his dues though, having litigated something like 1800 trial cases.
If he’s not in the office working on your case, you can probably find him after-hours watching Star Trek the Next Generation with an obese cat, strategizing all the while on how to get his clients home. But, twice a year, he lets loose by riding motorcycles through some wild and dangerous tropical country or just peacefully SCUBA diving in a coral reef.
